Early Access Delay Announcement

Dear Couriers,
Today we’re announcing a delay to the Early Access release of The Legend of Khiimori until March 3rd, 2026.
The wonderful reception during Next Fest has led to us sitting down with our publisher and together we have decided to take more time to create a more feature and content-rich experience! While this does mean that you all have to wait a little longer to get your hands on Khiimori, it also means we’ll be able to make sure you get a better game when we do release into Early Access.
We would like to thank everyone for participating in Steam Next Fest, trying out the demo and leaving us with valuable feedback. While it’s clear a huge number of people are enjoying the demo, we believe that it is the right decision to delay to March. This will give us an even stronger foundation to build from when we enter Early Access and then begin the collaborative development of Khiimori with all of you!
With that being said, we’re pleased to announce that as a result of the delay, the demo will not go offline as originally planned on October 20th, but will stay online until November 30th, 2025.
We will spend the time to work on the following areas as our primary focus and then also try to get in as much as we can until the start of Early Access, everything that does not get addressed until then we will deal with during Early Access. Please have in mind that this is not a complete list and we will adapt to use the time as wisely as possible to create the best possible game experience for you.
- Player Guidance and World Experience
- Camera, Controls, and UI
- Lowering Minimum System Requirements
- Performance and Optimization
- A more feature and content-rich experience
We understand that many of you may have hoped for different news today, but rest assured we will continue to pour our hearts and souls into Khiimori and harness this opportunity to deliver a satisfying Early Access for everyone!

Free Steam Next Fest Demo
We have just released a free demo for Steam Next Fest (October 13th – October 20th). It’s the latest version and the culmination of your feedback and passion, featuring an updated user interface!
Unlike the Alpha Playtest, which is still under NDA and therefore includes a watermark and must not be shared, the Steam Next Fest Demo is your chance to turn your passion into content! Stream it, clip it, write about it, meme it, let your voice echo across the gaming lands (more below).
Help us make this demo a success and build hype for The Legend of Khiimori ahead of its Early Access launch on November 4th!

New Name: The Legend of Khiimori

Dear Backers,
Today we’ve got an update we want to share with all of you: we’re changing the name of our game to The Legend of Khiimori.
As the game has grown and improved, thanks to your input, so has our vision for what The Legend of Khiimori can become. As a result, we have reached a mutual decision with Alias Entertainment to remove the Windstorm brand from this game.
We’re excited to expand on our unique setting in 13th century Mongolia and explore the new creative opportunities that this change opens up. The heart of the game will remain exactly the same, but now we can push it even further.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. We can’t wait to show you what’s next!

Alpha Playtest Update
Yes, we ARE excited about today’s update of the Alpha Playtest build on Steam.
We are introducing a new horse breed: the Akhal-Teke! Known for their striking silhouette and distinctive metallic sheen, this ancient breed of intelligent and hardy horses - originating from the area around modern-day Turkmenistan - is now live as well.
Here is an overview of what has changed with today’s update:
New Features and Content
- New horse breed: Akhal-Teke
- New music
- New tutorial messages
- Significant map updates - explore and find out :)
- New starting tutorial
Improvements and Fixes
- Rebalanced horse speed and turn rate
- Easier to stop the horse from moving forward
- Nomad camp improvements
- You now have a preview UI before placing your nomad camp
- Horses can now rest in nomad camp
- Added a campfire to the nomad camp
- Nomad camps now provide different bonuses depending on where in the world they are placed
- Implemented a new stable management UI
- Stables now have a buyback option if you accidentally sold your horse
- Multiple UI improvements
- Resources now have a description that shows where in the world they can be found
- The horse can now walk backwards
- Animation improvements for horses
- New animations for Naraa
- New animations for NPCs
- Removed Elderberries - they know what they did!
- Cargo now shows updates to its condition in the inventory
- Multiple smaller tweaks and improvements
- Bugs and crashfixes

Early Access: Expect the Unexpected
As you know, we are riding toward Early Access (Steam and Epic Games Store) on November 4th, 2025 at full speed, so here are a few topics we want to address:
- While a story is planned for the full release, Early Access will solely focus on system-driven gameplay meaning that the game is built around a set of engaging rules and systems that interact with each other, rather than just following a fixed story.
- The price of Early Access will be lower than that of the full release on PC and consoles next year, as it is - naturally - an unfinished product.
- Early Access will steadily “grow” into the full release, with Stretch Goals, content, and features finding their way into the game as we ride. To get a better idea of what will be integrated when - and to participate in voting on which content or features should be prioritized - please check out our Trello board: Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori - Development Roadmap
